Here are 10 of the greatest underwater projects. Some have had a better time of realizing their dreams than others, but visionaries of all sorts have dreamed up a bevy of interesting adventures under the sea. Here are 10 of the greatest underwater projects. Number 10. Mission 31. To mark the 50th anniversary of his grandfather Jacques' epic sea mission, Fabien Cousteau will be living in a submerged research facility for 31 days. While he's there, Fabien and his team will be investigating a number of oceanic wonders. Number 9. SeaOrbiter. At 190 feet tall, over half of the futuristic looking ship will be submerged and on a constant lookout for new species, lost cities, and mythical creatures. Construction on the ship is scheduled to begin late in 2014. Number 8. Sub-Biosphere 2. If everything goes as planned, designer Phillip Pauley will one day open this underwater community and seed bank, which is large enough to accommodate 100 people. Incidentally, that's the number of humans it would take to repopulate the Earth should something happen that wipes just about everybody out. Number 7 - Researchers from the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology have built a giant robot called the Crabster. Designed after the appearance of a crab, the 14 hundred pound robot that is about the size of a Smartcar, will be used to investigate the sunken wreckage of ships on the ocean floor. Number 6. H2OME. If you're tired of living above sea level, check out this builder. For about 10 million dollars, depending upon amenities and such, they can whip up a sea floor abode. The homes are built at surface pressure, so no tricky decompression is needed. Number 5. Sea-TY. Well, this is one way to be sea-level rise: build a city that can exist submerged in water. Sunlight is funneled in through a massive atrium built into a large, floating bowl. The buildings themselves are built at varying levels and are made accessible to one another via stairs. Number 4. Water-Discus Underwater Hotel. It's been named such for its design which is comprised of two inhabitable discs. One is located above water while the other sits beneath the surface, giving guests the option to enjoy warm breezes or watch vivid sea life swim by as they please. Number 3. Water-Scraper. Skyscrapers require a lot of natural resources to stay inhabitable and functioning. Not the Water-Scraper. It provides all of the multi-use and residential space as it's land-loving counterpart, but can power itself via the wind, waves, and sun. Number 2. Lady Landfill Skyscraper. Designed to resemble the Eiffel Tower flipped upside down, Lady Landfill is much more than a showy engineering feat. While its upper portion sustains the daily lives of its inhabitants, its submerged point collects plastic waste for later use as fuel. Number 1. Atlantica Expedition. Dennis Chamberland, the mind behind this concept, has already built a 2-person underwater habitat, but his total vision stretches so much further. He wants to build a whole city, which he describes as functioning sort of like the Jetsons' hometown, but on the ocean floor.

Top 10 existing or conceptions of undersea homes, hotels, restaurants, resorts and science labs deep in the ocean or sea. Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg Subsix footage from: Dreaming of Maldives Description: When it comes to the oceanic experience, there is an entire world that we have yet to discover in the depths of the sea. Underwater civilizations are the subject of adventure and science fiction entertainment, and living a life among the fishes seems to be a life of fantasy and nothing more. But today, thanks to the innovations of engineering and a lot of money, architects and oceanic experts have found a way to build structures underwater. With the help of designers and engineering experts, we are one step closer to creating civilizations underwater. With the beauty of the ocean and marine life that much closer to being called home by the human race, there has been a lot of drafting, designing, and execution in the world of underwater living. Of course, it is more complicated than just building an underwater structure. As you go underwater, the pressure increases with each inch that you go below the depths of the surface. So these structures must be able to withstand the weight of the water around it. Also, humans cannot live underwater on their own, so these structures must find a way to pump oxygen into the space. Not to mention that these structures must be furnished and bring in food and necessities to live comfortably in a person’s time in the structure. Engineering wise, creating something that is habitable underwater can be a nightmare to execute, let alone design. Compromises to art and style have to be compromised for the sake of safety and human survival. Also, should there be any damages or leaks to the structures, how does one repair them without completely destroying the structure? While it is cool to think of underwater structures, the science and technology behind them is very complicated. Not to mention that underwater structures can be very vulnerable to attacks. Whether it is a sea creature that doesn’t like the hotel that is in its space, or someone on the other side of the glass is antagonizing a killer whale, we all know that these animals have the ability to break multiple layers of glass and cause some real damage. Not only that, but terrorists can also target these underwater structures. All it takes is a bomb or a bullet to completely submerge the structure in water. So, besides the building of the structure, safety precautions must be taken in order to ensure the survival of the structure. Underwater structures are coming in the form of restaurants, museums, and hotels. They are all awesome to think about. But again, the execution behind the building of the structures were complex and potentially the product of any engineer or architect’s nightmares. Something else that has to be taken into consideration is the longevity of the structure, and how long the building will last while dealing with wear and tear from interior and exterior use. But the end results are well worth the effort, and it makes the human race one step closer to completely taking over the earth. The Channel Tunnel (French: Le tunnel sous la Manche; also referred to as the Chunnel) is a 50.5-kilometre (31.4 mi) rail tunnel linking Folkestone, Kent, in the United Kingdom, with Coquelles, Pas-de-Calais, near Calais in northern France, beneath the English Channel at the Strait of Dover. At its lowest point, it is 75 m (250 ft) deep. At 37.9 kilometres (23.5 mi), the tunnel has the longest undersea portion of any tunnel in the world, although the Seikan Tunnel in Japan is both longer overall at 53.85 kilometres (33.46 mi) and deeper at 240 metres (790 ft) below sea level. The speed limit in the tunnel is 160 kilometres per hour (99 mph) The tunnel carries high-speed Eurostar passenger trains, the Eurotunnel Shuttle for road vehicles—the largest such transport in the world[—and international freight trains. The tunnel connects end-to-end with the LGV Nord and High Speed 1 high-speed railway lines. Ideas for a cross-Channel fixed link appeared as early as 1802, but British political and press pressure over the compromising of national security stalled attempts to construct a tunnel. An early attempt at building a Channel Tunnel was made in the late 19th century, on the English side "in the hope of forcing the hand of the English Government".[The eventual successful project, organised by Eurotunnel, began construction in 1988 and opened in 1994. At £4.65 billion, the project came in 80% over its predicted budget.Since its construction, the tunnel has faced several problems. Fires and cold weather have both disrupted its operation.Illegal immigrants have attempted to use the tunnel to enter the UK, causing a minor diplomatic disagreement over the siting of the Sangatte refugee camp, which was eventually closed in 2002.

"I like this project better than any other project because I know we are gonna be using a lot of riser clamps out there. It's definitely some real world experience." "Riser clamps come in many different shapes and sizes. What they are is a support brace that clamps on the outside to lock the riser pipe with a product that goes down and out to the actual leg of the oil rig. It just gives our students the real world experience to make them successful in the industry. The students get to learn about heavy rigging, come alongs, shackles, straps, they get to learn about big blocks and whip lines for simulating the crane"
